I think selfies are a picture you take of just yourself with a camera or phone
I don't take any selfies because i don't think it's useful and i wouldn't do anything with them.I think selfies have became popular because many people take selfies and post it on social media which can influence other people to take selfies. I don't think there's a downside of taking photos because it can be a new thing for people.I think the rules you need to have when taking a selfie is having only you in the frame, a good angle, lighting and good quality. In the video the way they approach selfies is if they wanted to post it on social media they try to look as good as possible but if they're sending a selfie to their friends they don't need to so they feel more comfortable. Self portraits were made by using a camera or phone with the front facing camera view.
Questions about these self portraits
What was your first impression? My first impression was that it looks like he's in a van with a very old camera and someone has taken a picture of him. Have you seen an image like this before? Not really, this self portrait is usually something you wont see normally it's a much more different theme to any other self portraits. What strikes you as unusual or different about the image? The image is in black and white, low quality, compared to modern day selfies they include more colour and improved quality. This person is in a different position like on the floor and in a strange background. What does the image remind you of? It doesn't remind me of anything much maybe this is how people used to take selfies of themselves. What was your first impression? My first impression on this self portrait was that it's a simple and normal selfie with a completely white background. Have you seen an image like this before? Yes, many times |

Vivian Maier
Vivian Maier is an American photographer who takes lots of photos most of them being self portraits with a different style of framing and disguise of herself in the photos, her photos are taken with a medium format camera positioned around her waist most of the time. Her photos are in black and white but sometimes in colour. In her photos she has managed to include many different shadows of herself and other objects, Vivian Maier's aim was to make her photographs unknown and unpublished until July 2008 when she started publishing her first photos.
Examples of her photos
My attempts of her work
rom this photo i have noticed that it is in a square format, I think the reason to why she has done this is so the photo can capture more of what's going on in the frame and the camera she used. Whilst looking at this image i can see that the photographer has involved herself in the photo in a distorted way and in the background there is a reflection which has changed the lighting of the whole photo, she is the only one in the frame which also makes this a self portrait. The camera she has used to take this photo has been placed at a low level and the way she has taken this image is either with a countdown on the camera or someone has taken this photo of her. This image doesn't make me feel anything but it gives me a different understanding of how to take a distorted image. The positioning of the objects are more placed to the side maybe so more people are focused on the photographer more than the background. The lighting of this photo has been relied on by one or two sources which comes from the glass window, it has given a strong level of lighting from the centre.
Distorted Images
The idea i had for this photo was to cover my face a bit with an object falling to the ground. The picture reminds me of how it has to be square format and distorted. In this photo there wasn't many risks to take this so it was quite easy and not much could go wrong and doing something different felt unusual because i had to get used to it.
